— The Netbird Team :dove:

Hello everyone! My name is Tuomo and I’m from Finland :waving_hand:

I’m really happy to join this community and looking forward to connecting with fellow VPN users and developers!

What brought me to Netbird?
As an IT professional, I’ve worked with traditional site-to-site VPN solutions like OpenVPN in the past. About a year ago, I started exploring alternatives that could better support my needs for a more flexible, secure, and modern setup. That’s when I came across Netbird—and I’ve been impressed ever since. What really won me over was the seamless integration with an IAM provider of my choice via OIDC. That feature alone has made a big difference in how I manage and scale my private network.

What’s your current setup?
I’m currently running a self-hosted Netbird instance. I’ve automated the deployment process alongside an IAM integration using OIDC, which keeps things smooth and manageable. While this isn’t part of my day job, it’s something I maintain actively as a personal project to support my own human network of friends and collaborators.

What do you hope to get out of the community?
I’m here to learn, share experiences, and support others where I can. I’m especially interested in hearing how others are using Netbird in creative or large-scale ways. And if I can help others set up or fine-tune their own setups—especially around IAM integration—I’ll be more than happy to learn about new development, as the service seems to have very active development working track.

Looking forward to being part of the journey with you all!

Hello, thank you for your welcome message. Could you help me post the following issue in order to receive help? I opened an issue but I guess due to the lack of experience it is in the wrong place:
I have been testing Netbird on cloud, and it looks great. However, I have been struggling with DNS related issues. I have a test setup with a wireless router in a local LAN, gaining access from an external Windows 10 notebook. In order to gain access to other LAN computers not running the agent, I use a Synology DSM6.2 NAS as routing peer. At first it did not route properly, but I added initial config on startup to allow messages routed back. Everything went fine, but after a couple of upgrades, especially from 0.50.1 to 0.51.2 I lost internal LAN name resolving, so when I ping an internal IP I receive a reply, but if I ping a hostname, it does not work.
I would very much appreciate receiving a link to further explanation on how to setup things, or to identify whether the lack of ping reply has to do with a bug on recent upgrades.
Thank you!
