Long delay reconnecting

Describe the problem

Is it normal for it to take several minutes for the network connection to become usable if the network connection changes?

On all of my Windows client computers, if I switch between Wi-Fi and Ethernet or if I disable/re-enable the Netbird client, it takes several minutes for the network connection to become usable. I’ve also experienced the same delay on the Windows clients when editing resources on the Netbird server. I do not experience this issue on my mobile phone.

This was not an issue until I installed the Netbird client on these PC’s.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Switch from Wi-fi to Ethernet connection
  2. Try to access the Internet or LAN shares.
  3. Network is not available for a few minutes

Expected behavior

Be able to use the network within several seconds, not minutes.

Are you using NetBird Cloud?

Self-host NetBird’s control plane.

NetBird version

v0.79.0

Is any other VPN software installed?

No

Have you tried these troubleshooting steps?

  • Reviewed client troubleshooting (if applicable)
  • Checked for newer NetBird versions
  • Searched for similar issues on GitHub (including closed ones)
  • Restarted the NetBird client
  • Disabled other VPN software
  • Checked firewall settings

Network (e.g. anything on the internet) or your shares are not immediently availible? And are these connected over the VPN, together with an AD? Or constantly connected through something like Azure?

Nothing is available. DNS recovery should not take this long. I have a Windows DNS server in the lab. On my remote PC, I have some mapped drives that point to shares in the lab so they are only available over VPN.
